Telework

Telework Agreement - Form Process

Overview: The Virginia Community College Telework Agreement is designed to provide flexible work options for employees, allowing them to work remotely from an off-site location for a specified period or on an ongoing basis. Telework arrangements must align with the institution's operational needs, ensuring productivity and continuity of services while supporting employees in balancing their professional and personal responsibilities. This policy is in accordance with state telework guidelines and adheres to the institution’s goals for an efficient, flexible, and responsive workforce.

Purpose

The Telework Agreement aims to:

  1. Offer employees an alternative work arrangement that supports work-life balance.
  2. Enhance employee productivity and job satisfaction.
  3. Promote a positive organizational culture that values flexibility and trust.
  4. Reduce commuting costs and environmental impacts by allowing work from home or other approved remote locations.
  5. Ensure compliance with state and institutional policies governing telework arrangements.

Eligibility

Who Can Telework?

Eligibility for telework is determined by the nature of the employee’s job duties and the department’s operational requirements. Employees in positions that are conducive to remote work, such as those involving tasks that can be performed independently with minimal need for physical presence on campus, are ideal candidates. However, telework is not suitable for all job roles, particularly those requiring regular face-to-face interaction, access to on-site resources, or tasks that are location-dependent.

Employee Requirements

Employees who wish to participate in telework must:

  • Be in good standing with the institution.
  • Demonstrate a strong performance record.
  • Be able to maintain productivity without daily supervision.
  • Have access to a secure and appropriate remote work environment, including reliable internet and communication tools.

Steps in the Process:

  1. Completing the VCCS Telework Agreement Form: The employee will need to complete the form in full.
  2. Review and Submission: The employee will need to submit the VCCS Telework Agreement Form via Team Dynamix once the form is completed and has manager's & VP's signature.
  3. HR Approval or Denial: The HR department will review the form and accompanying documentation. If there are any issues or if the form is denied, HR will contact the employee to address any concerns or provide guidance on how to correct the form.

Conclusion: The Virginia Community College Telework Agreement provides a structured, mutually beneficial arrangement that supports flexible working conditions for eligible employees. By outlining clear expectations, responsibilities, and guidelines, the institution ensures that telework is implemented in a way that benefits both employees and the college community.
