Mapping to a Campus Printer

Key Points:

  • A new Reynolds print server web page has been created to allow users to easily map to any campus printer.  The web address of the page is https://adminprint.reynolds.edu.

  • To access the page from a college machine, it must be connected to the campus network via Ethernet, JSRCCnet (secure wireless), or through VPN (if off-campus).

  • To map to any printer that is listed, you must use the Microsoft Edge browser and load it in Internet Explorer mode (see Steps 2 and 3 in the Instructions section below).

  • The print server web page will list continuous real-time information including the location of all our campus printers, their current operation status (e.g., Ready, Offline, Low Toner/Ink, etc.), the departments/offices they are assigned to, their models, and how many jobs are remaining in the queue.

Instructions:

  1. Make sure that your college computer is connected to the campus network.  It must be connected to an Ethernet cable, JSRCCnet (secure wireless network), or to VPN (if your machine is off-campus).

  2. Open the Microsoft Edge browser on your college computer and navigate to https://adminprint.reynolds.edu.

  3. In Edge, make sure that the page is loaded in Internet Explorer mode by clicking the three dots in the top-right corner of the browser window (this is known as Settings and more), then choose the Reload in Internet Explorer Mode option.

Tip: You'll know the page has reloaded in Internet Explorer mode when you briefly see a message appear in the browser telling that the page is open in Internet Explorer mode.  You'll may also see a message in top area of the browser alerting you to the same thing.

  4. Scroll down the list of printers on the page to find the one that you want to map to, then click on its name (in the far left column).  For example, if you want to map to the printer on the Downtown Campus - Room 464, click the printer name "Downtown 464 - Copier."

  5. On the next screen, you will see a bunch of printer properties to choose from.  To map the printer to your machine, click Connect under the Printer Actions section.

Note: If you do not see the Connect option, verify that the page is loaded in Internet Explorer mode (refer back to Step 3 above).

  6. A dialog box should pop-up on your screen asking if you want to add the printer connection.  Click Yes to proceed.

  7. A message will appear on the screen showing a progress bar for the printer installation.  After it checks your network connection, the installation should complete after a few moments.  Once finished, you will see a message telling you the installation is complete.  You can click on the link to open your Printers folder on your machine to verify that the printer has been added to your computer.

  8. The Devices and Printers window will appear (in Windows 11, it's named Printers & Scanners instead).  If you wish to make your newly added printer the default printer, right-click on the printer icon and select Set as default printer.  It will then be denoted with a green check.
