Key Points:
Locked printing (also called secure printing) is a feature on our college copiers that allows users to input a password or PIN to before a document is printed.
Locked printing prevents documents from being seen and/or picked up by someone is not authorized to have them.
Locked printing should be especially utilized when printing out documents that have sensitive or confidential information such as students' grades, social security numbers, and credit card numbers.
Instructions:
In most applications, you can bring up the print dialog box by selecting
File
>
Print
or by using the keyboard shortcut keys
Ctrl + Shift + P
(Mac users can press
Command + Shift + P
). Once the dialog box is visible, click
Properties
-- some applications like Internet browsers will have the
More Settings
option instead.
Under the
My Tab
section, select the drop-down menu for
Output Method
and choose
Secure Print
.
The
User Settings
dialog box will appear. In the
Secure Print
area, enter whatever Document ID you wish to use along with the password.
Note:
The Document ID is limited to 16 characters while the password is limited to 64 characters.
Click
OK
to save your changes.
Choose any additional print settings you need, then
OK
again.
Click
Print
to send the print job to the copier.
On the copier, tap the
Secure Print
option, then enter the Document ID and password you created in Step 3.
A thumbnail list of your print jobs that you have selected the Secure Print option with will be shown. Tap the job you want to print.
Press the
Menu
button on the copier to leave your thumbnail list of print jobs (to prevent someone else after you from printing out any of your other print jobs) and retrieve your document once it has finished printing.
