Mapping to a Network Drive in Windows

Key Points:

  • Windows will allow users to map to any network drive as long as they know the correct folder path and have sufficient privileges to access it.

  • Reynolds network drives will require your machine to be connected to the campus network via Ethernet, JSRCCnet Wi-Fi, or through VPN.

  • Folder paths are entered using the syntax of \\server name\folder.

  • Users can contact the Help Desk if they need to know the correct folder path to use or need to gain rights to access the folder path.

Instructions:

  1. Verify that your computer is connected to the campus network (see Key Points in the previous section for sufficient ways of connecting to the campus network).

  2. Click on the File Explorer icon (looks like a picture of a folder) in the Taskbar -- located at the bottom of your screen.  Alternatively, you can right click on the Start menu icon at the bottom left corner of the screen and then select File Explorer.

  3. In File Explorer, go to left side of the screen and select This PC.

  4. Go to the top of the screen and in the ribbon, select Map network drive.

  5. Select the appropriate drive letter.

  6. Enter the correct folder path.  Remember that the correct syntax to use is \\server name\folder.

  7. Make sure that the Reconnect at sign in option is checked and click Finish.
