Mapping to a Network Drive in Windows
Summary
This article outlines the process to map to any network drive in the Windows operating system.
Body
Key Points:
- Windows will allow users to map to any network drive as long as they know the correct folder path and have sufficient privileges to access it.
- Reynolds network drives will require your machine to be connected to the campus network via Ethernet, JSRCCnet Wi-Fi, or through VPN.
- Folder paths are entered using the syntax of \\server name\folder.
- Users can contact the Help Desk if they need to know the correct folder path to use or need to gain rights to access the folder path.
Instructions:
- Verify that your computer is connected to the campus network (see Key Points in the previous section for sufficient ways of connecting to the campus network).
- Click on the File Explorer icon (looks like a picture of a folder) in the Taskbar -- located at the bottom of your screen. Alternatively, you can right click on the Start menu icon at the bottom left corner of the screen and then select File Explorer.
- In File Explorer, go to left side of the screen and select This PC.
- Go to the top of the screen and in the ribbon, select Map network drive.
- Select the appropriate drive letter.
- Enter the correct folder path. Remember that the correct syntax to use is \\server name\folder.
- Make sure that the Reconnect at sign in option is checked and click Finish.
