Key Points:
All Cisco VOIP (voice over Internet Protocol) phones at Reynolds has a voicmail indicator light that will turn on (will illuminate red) when messages have been left for retrieval on a user's assigned extension.
Some college extensions will not have voicemail setup and the voicemail indicator light will not turn on since no messages can be left. Instead, these extensions will continue to ring until someone takes the call or the caller hangs up.
The voicemail indicator light can have an issue where it is turned on when no messages have been left or turned off when there are messages. This issue can be resolved by resetting the light indicator using the procedures in the Instructions section below.
Instructions:
Verify that your extension actually has voicemails left for retrieval by pressing the
Messages
button on your desk phone (the icon is the symbol of envelope). If there are no voicemails but the indicator light is turned on, there are two ways to turn it off.
Option A:
Pick up the receiver on your desk phone and press
1000
. The indicator light should turn off and should reset itself back to normal so that the next time you actually receive a voicemail, the light turns on.
Option B:
Call your extension from a different phone and leave a voicemail. Press the
Messages
button on your desk phone to save or delete the message. The indicator light should turn off so that the next time you receive a voicemail, the light will turn on.
If the voicemail indicator light is turned off and you feel that you have received a voicemail, pick up the receiver on your desk phone and press
1001
to turn it on. Then, press the
Messages
to confirm that you do have a voicemail. Once you save or delete the message, the light should turn off again (it should reset itself back to normal so that the next time you receive a voicemail, the light turns on).
If the voicemail indicator light doesn't reset itself despite anything you try, you may have a malfunctioning voicemail indicator light. Contact the Help Desk for further assistance.
