Remote Computing

Key Points:

  • The Reynolds Help Desk may need to remote into a user's computer in order to effectively and accurately troubleshoot their technology issue (or issues).  We will always ask for the user's permission to connect before we do so.

  • All college computers have TeamViewer installed on them to facilitate a remote connection.  However, an Internet connection is required for TeamViewer to actually establish a connection.

  • The user can supply either their computer name, or a 9- or 10-digit TeamViewer ID number.

Instructions:

To remotely connect to a user's computer, ask for their computer name or TeamViewer ID number.

  • The computer name can be found by having the user to right-click on the Start menu icon down at the bottom left corner of their screen and selecting the System option.  The About window will then appear on the screen.  Look for Device name (or Full device name) under the Device Specifications section.

  • The TeamViewer ID number can be found by having the user to click the Start menu icon and scrolling through the list of installed programs.  Open the TeamViewer application.  A pop-up window will come up on the screen and display the ID number.
