Canvas Course Merge

Canvas Course Merge Request

Use this service to combine multiple Canvas sections into one course shell for easier course management.

What is a Course Merge?

A course merge combines multiple child sections into one parent Canvas course. This allows instructors to manage content, assignments, announcements, and grading in a single location.

Example: If you teach three sections of the same course, they may be merged into one Canvas shell.

When Should I Request One?

A merge may be helpful if:

  • You teach multiple sections of the same course
  • The sections use the same syllabus and schedule
  • You prefer managing one Canvas course instead of several

Important Guidelines

  • Courses may only be merged within the same term
  • Only sections of the same course should be merged
  • Different instructors may require dean approval
  • Requests after the due date may require dean approval
  • Courses cannot be merged once students have begun working

SSDL Course Requests

If your request includes a Brightpoint Shared Services Distance Learning course, the SSDL course must be the parent course.

Brightpoint SSDL sections begin with:

  • BC = Asynchronous
  • BCZ = Synchronous

Information Needed for Your Request

Please include the following in your ticket:

  • Your Brightpoint ID
  • Parent Course ID
  • Child Course ID(s)

Submit a separate request for each parent course. Once completed, you will receive a confirmation email.
