Verify Your Address in Teams
Why is this step important?
Whether you are working from home or on campus, you it is critical that you verify that the address displayed in Teams is accurate. If there is an emergency and you need to dial 911 from your Teams application, the address listed determines which E911 dispatch the call is sent to and ultimately where emergency services go. While on campus and connected to the PVCC network, the address should default to the address of the building you are in. However, it is still recommended that you take a moment to verify it is reporting accurately, when you switch working locations.
Below are the official E911 addresses for the locations on the PVCC network:
Building |

Main Building |
501 College Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22902, US |

Best Practice
If you are working from home or any location not on the PVCC network and there is an emergency, we strongly recommend that you use your cell or land line phone to dial 911 instead of Teams Voice. This will diminish the chances emergency services showing up to the wrong location if your address in Teams does not reflect your actual location.
If you are working elsewhere with poor cell service, no land line, and must make an emergency call using Teams Voice, you can manually enter your address in Teams to ensure that emergency services show up to the correct location. As an additional precaution, be sure to inform the 911 dispatcher of your full actual location address to avoid any confusion or delays in receiving emergency assistance.
Important note: Use of a VPN, including the college's VPN may impact the location address that is automatically set Teams, while we strongly recommend not using Teams Voice to dial 911 when not at a PVCC location, if you must, be sure you have verified your address is accurate in Teams before calling, and be sure to inform the 911 dispatcher of your full actual location address to avoid any confusion or delays in receiving emergency assistance.
Verifying your E911 address
It is important that you only call 911 in an emergency. Never dial 911 to verify if your E911 address is correct. Instead, you can dial 933 to reach the automated 911 Test System. This system will playback the reported name (ours is usually Piedmont Virginia Community college), the number that called, and the emergency address of that number for you to verify.
You can also verify your location is set properly in Teams.
1. Click Calls button
2. Look at address. If you are on the main campus in the main building, it should be 501 College Drive, Charlottesville, VA

3. If you at a PVCC location and the address is incorrect or displays as "Location not detected", set your address manually as show below and please reach out the Technology Services Help Desk so we can determine why it didn't work automatically.
Manually Update Address
If you are at an off campus location where cell service is unreliable and the Internet connection is stable, you can manually update your Teams address . As a reminder, when not on the PVCC network, if you cell service is reliable, use your cell phone, not Teams, to call 911 to avoid an confusion or delays in receiving emergency assistance.
1. Click Calls Button. Then click the address or line that says "Location not detected".

3. Click Add.

4. You can search for a location or click "Enter Address Manually"

5. Enter address where you are working from in that moment and click Add.
