The Jabber platform turns your mobile device into an extension of your work phone. You appear to receive and make calls from your desk phone when using the application on your mobile device. Jabber delivers instant messaging, voice and video calls, voice messaging and conferencing.
NOTE: You must fill out the form below to have Jabber enabled for your device.
How to configure Jabber on your smartphone.
*Note: This tutorial was done on an Apple iPhone but the process for Android will be much the same.
1. Fill out the Jabber request form.
2. From your smartphone, visit the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store and search for “Jabber”. Install the Cisco Jabber App.
3. After installation of the Jabber App,
- Open Jabber and enter the VCCS EAD credential (same as your MyMECC user ID) you provided when filling out the Jabber request form.
- Your username should be followed by “@vccs.edu” Example: rdeel0011@vccs.edu.
- Press Continue *Note: If you receive a “Server Error Message” turn off the Wi-Fi on your smartphone and try to connect using Cellular data. You can turn the Wi-Fi back on once Jabber connects to the server.
4. Enter your VCCS password (Same as MyMECC) then press “Sign In”.
5. You may or may not be presented with the option to protect your Jabber App with Touch/Face ID. This is completely up to you, but IS RECOMMENDED.
6. Once you have successfully signed in, you will be presented with the main Jabber screen. From here you can see your Contacts and Favorites, search through your contacts and recent calls, add contacts, favorites, and create groups, see your availability status (Top Left), chat with other Jabber users, place calls, see your calendar, and check your voicemails.
7. To change your availability, select your initials from the top left of the main Jabber page.
8. Select your name.
9. Select your desired status.
10. To make a call using Jabber,
- Simply select one of your contacts or press “Calls” at the bottom of the main page.
- Press “Keypad” and enter the 6-digit extension if calling another MECC employee or the full number of your party if dialing a number outside of campus.
11. When on a call with Jabber, you will see the screen below. From this screen you can (top right) enable the speaker phone, (bottom menu) mute the call, start a video call, conference in another party, and end the call.
