Fred Rogers often told a story from his childhood about watching frightening news events and feeling scared. His mother comforted him by saying, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." That simple advice became a reminder that, even in difficult moments, there are compassionate people quietly showing up to care for others. In that same spirit, we've gathered a list of helpers in our own community. These organizations and people (including students and employees!) offer support, services, and resources to ensure our neighbors are supported, seen, and not alone.
If Mr. Rogers taught the world anything, it is that kindness and compassion are radical and practical. Our neighborhood is full of quiet heroes!
