Direct link to the poster

This poster must be posted by every employer subject to Virginia unemployment compensation laws. It advises an employee when they are eligible for unemployment insurance benefits and how to apply for those benefits.

In Virginia there is no deduction from your paycheck for unemployment insurance. Employers' taxes are deposited in a trust fund from which unemployment insurance benefits are paid, unlike Old Age and Survivors Insurance, to which you do contribute.

You may apply for unemployment insurance benefits if you are totally unemployed or you are working at reduced wages and hours. File a claim for benefits the first week you are unemployed, laid off, or working reduced hours. File at www.vec.virginia.gov, or by calling 1-866-832-2363. You must register for work online if totally unemployed, via www.vawc.virginia.gov.

To be eligible, you must: File a claim with the VEC; have earned sufficient wages during your base period; be unemployed through no fault of your own; be able and available and actively searching for work; be reporting as required by VEC.
