Benefits & Eligibility Requirements of the Chancellor's Fellowship Awards

This program supports community college employees pursuing degree studies to enhance their contributions to the community college mission.

Faculty Fellowship:

The Chancellor’s Faculty Fellowship supports full-time VCCS faculty members who are pursuing doctoral studies to strengthen their instructional or leadership contributions to the community college mission. Fellows receive up to $7,500 for tuition and fees, ¾ salary, and a one-year leave of absence with full continuation of benefits. The program is open to faculty with at least three years of service, accepted into an accredited doctoral program at a public or private institution.'

Classified Fellowship:

The Chancellor’s Fellowship for Classified Employees offers a unique opportunity for career advancement through higher education. Eligible full-time classified employees with three years of service may apply for financial support of up to $7,500, a ¾ paid leave of absence for up to one year, and continued benefits. The fellowship supports degree programs at accredited public or private institutions, helping VCCS employees deepen their impact on student and institutional success.

Benefits

  • $7,500 tuition support
  • ¾ salary if the individual opts to take a leave of absence
  • 100% continuation of insurance and retirement benefits if a leave of absence is taken

Eligibility Requirements

  • 3 consecutive years in a full-time, state-funded position
  • Enrolled or accepted in a higher education degree program
  • Endorsed by the college president or the Chancellor

VCCS HR shares that the announcement of awardees will occur in July, in time for the disbursement of funds for the 2026 Fall semester.  Winners will be presented at the September State Board Meeting.
