TDX: iPaaS Getting Started

Before Getting Started

TDX iPaaS is a full-fledged low-code automation and integration platform similar to Microsoft PowerAutomate, Zapier, and Boomi. While it has the ability to connect to any API, by default it is used to automate TDX Ticketing and other functions. These can be dynamic updates, scheduled tasks, and one-offs, and the environment also includes a custom forms designer.

In terms of automations, iPaaS is the most flexible option after workflows.

Assumption

You are a TDX technician with some understanding of programming.

Steps

When requested through a ticket, a college technician is set up with an account on the iPaaS system, and given a sandbox application to learn to use the system. This sandbox application contains some training flows developed by VCCS to experiment with. The username to access is typically the college email address. While iPaaS is available from the TDX waffle, it is also directly available at https://us1.teamdynamix.com/.

VCCS has recorded training videos available, in addition to the delivered documentation, and there are always presentations at the Converge conference that are good for developing ideas and understanding how others use it.

You can also ask on the Questions site, and in the iPaaS Community site. There is also a TDX Slack, and they hold regular office hours. There is also a quarterly(?) iPaaS Advisory Group meeting which includes demos and sharing of upcoming features.

At the time of writing (mid-2024), VCCS is limited in the number of external connectors we have licensed. The ones we have are primarily used to connect to an on premise proxy server.

The general expectation is that colleges will have a dedicated application in our iPaaS environment, although other institutions also report setting up applications for specific functions, which is also a valid model.
