Tech Tip #30: Zoom Remote Support

Summary

Ways to help students remotely using Zoom.

Body

Today we are discussing a way to help students remotely via Zoom.

Most of us have had to help students virtually at one point or another with a classwork assignment, signing up for a class, etc.  If you’re like me, you’ve had to go through and point out to them where to go on the screen and what they need to do.  It can be a struggle…  “Now go up to this menu…”  “To the left…”   “Too far!”   “No wait.  Right there!  That’s the spot.”   This can leave students (and you) frustrated.

Zoom allows for you to use their program for remote support.  This allows you to control the mouse cursor and type on a student’s computer, with the user’s permission, making these interactions much easier.

The best part?  You can do this without administrative rights!  Just turn on the feature following the instructions below.  I’ve included a how to use remote control in Zoom video if you click the picture below. If you need more assistance, please reach out.

We’ve also partnered with the library to highlight some of their resources on our tech tips.  If you’d like to learn more about using Zoom, check out the resources that the library has to assist.
