Overview
This article provides step-by-step instructions for first-time login to your VPCC Microsoft 365 account and setting up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using the Microsoft Authenticator app. It also includes the VPCC account password requirements so your password is secure and compliant.
Step 1: Initial Login to VPCC Microsoft 365

Open a web browser and go to https://www.office.com.

Click Sign In.

Enter your VPCC email address (e.g., username@vpcc.edu) and click Next.

Enter your temporary password provided by VPCC and click Sign In.

You will be prompted to change your password. Ensure your new password meets the VPCC password requirements:

Passwords must be reset every 180 days.

Password must not contain the user's account name or parts of the user's full name that exceed two consecutive characters.

Cannot re-use previous passwords.

Must be at least 13 characters in length.

Must contain characters from three of the following four categories:

English uppercase characters (A-Z)

English lowercase characters (a-z)
-
Base 10 digits (0-9)

Non-alphabetic characters (e.g., @ # $ % ^ & * – _ ! + = [ ] { } | \ : ‘ , . ? / ~ ” ( ) ; < >`)

Enter your new password, confirm it, and click Save/Submit.
Tip: Choose a password you can remember or store it securely in a password manager.
Step 2: Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Step 2a: Begin MFA Setup

After signing in, you will see a security verification prompt.

Click Set up Microsoft Authenticator.
Step 2b: Install the Authenticator App

On your mobile device, download the Microsoft Authenticator app from:

iOS App Store
-
Google Play Store
-
Open the app once installed.
Step 2c: Connect Your Account

In the Authenticator app, tap Add Account → Work or School Account.

Use the app to scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen.

Follow any additional prompts in the app to complete registration.
Step 2d: Complete Verification

Once setup is complete, return to your computer.

Click Next to confirm the MFA connection.

Approve the notification in the Authenticator app to verify your identity.
Step 3: Finish Login

After successful MFA verification, you are logged into Microsoft 365.

You now have access to your VPCC email, Teams, OneDrive, and other Microsoft 365 apps.
