Yesterday, October 14, 2025, support for Windows 10 ended. This means your computer is no longer getting security patches and will soon become vulnerable to cybercriminals. If you are still running Windows 10 at home, it's time to look at your options for what you can do now.
Option 1: Upgrade your PC to Windows 11
For more recent computers, Windows 10 can easily be upgraded to Windows 11. Follow the steps in the hyperlink to do this. If it works, GREAT! You're done. If it doesn't, then weigh your other options...
Option 2: Get a new PC.
If expense comes into play, there are several options...
From new value laptops at Best Buy...
Deals at Costco/Sam's Club/BJs...
Used PCs from the Goodwill on Mercury Blvd or built at the local computer repair places, such as Computer Concepts or PC Doctors.
If this isn't in your budget...
Option 3: Get Windows 10 Extended Security Updates:
This will extend your Windows 10 updates for a year. It costs $61. This will buy you some time to save up for a new machine. More information in the hyperlink.
Option 4: Change your operating system:
For users who only use the web and basic computing, like word processing, another operating system, such as Linux, might be a good option to install on your old pc. Here's a good video on how to change your operating system. Please note you will need to back up your files as they won't transfer to the device, and some Microsoft-specific apps won't work on Linux. See this link if you are interested in this option.
