Today we have a quick review of Outlook encryption from Tech Tip 13.
Encryption, in simple terms, is like locking a message in a box with a special key: only someone with the correct key can open the box and read the message inside, making it impossible for anyone else to understand the information unless they have the key; essentially, it's a way to scramble data so only authorized people can access it by using a secret code to unlock it. In other words, no one can read your email except the intended recipient. This is used to secure personally identifiable information, sometimes called PII for short. Any email sent containing PII (social security numbers, financial information, etc.) should be encrypted.
To do this. Click “Options” at the top bar of your email and click “Encrypt” or “Encrypt Only.”
