A module is a section of your course designed to organize and present content while outlining the learning activities and assessments for students over a specific period. Students will navigate to the Modules tab when they open your course. This is were they will access all of the course content. Modules can span a week or extend over a longer timeframe, such as units or chapters, and are typically centered around a theme or specific topic.
What should be included in a module?

Creating Modules
To add a module, in course navigation, click the Modules link to go to the modules landing page. From there click the red +Module button. A window will pop up for you to name your module, and select the module settings.

Setting Module Requirements
Canvas enables you to manage your students' work flow within and between modules by setting prerequisites and requirements for each module.
Prerequisites
When you set a module prerequisite, the module remains locked until a student completes the required items in the designated prerequisite module.
When choosing a prerequisite module, you can only select from preceding modules. You may need to reorder modules to ensure the correct prerequisite is in place.
Requirements
When you add requirements to a module, students must complete the specified tasks before the module is marked as complete. You can require students to complete all tasks or allow them to choose one.
Additionally, you can set the order of completion, either allowing any order or enforcing sequential progression based on the Modules page layout. Different requirements can be set for each iteration of a module item.
Adding Content to Modules
You can add new or existing content items to a module in Canvas, and the same item can be included in multiple modules or appear multiple times within a single module.
You can add new pages, existing pages, websites, videos, files, discussions, assignments and quizzes to modules.
- The status of the entire module overrides the state of individual items within it. It might be best to keep all module items unpublished until you are ready to publish the entire module.
- Students can only access pages and assignments through the modules, so ensuring the module is properly set up is essential for student access.
