Canvas: The Rich Content Editor

The Rich Content Editor offers a streamlined and intuitive toolbar, organized with commonly used icons and functions. This editor is available whenever you are creating new content and is utilized across various Canvas features, including Announcements, Assignments, Discussions, New Quizzes, Pages, Quizzes, and the Syllabus.

The Rich Content Editor (RCE) is the primary tool for adding text, images, files, multimedia, and hyperlinks in Canvas. It appears throughout the system wherever content entry is possible, including content pages, quiz questions, and discussion posts.

Featuring a familiar interface similar to desktop word processors like Microsoft Word, the RCE includes a variety of tools for formatting and editing. The image below illustrates these tools and provides brief explanations on their functions and usage.

Please be aware that the Rich Content Editor does not have a built-in undo or redo button. However, you can use keyboard shortcuts to manage your changes:

  • Ctrl-Z (Undo): This shortcut allows you to undo recent actions. 

  • Ctrl-Y (Redo): This shortcut redoes actions you have undone.
