Canvas: The Calendar

Benefits of the Canvas Calendar

Use the calendar to keep track of all of the assignments and events throughout the semester.

  • Choose what you see:  Courses can be enabled/disabled in the Calendar view
  • Different views:  User can choose 'month', 'week', or 'agenda' view
  • Calendar, Assign Dates in course, and Syllabus work in conjunction:  Change date in one place and it updates all the others!
  • Icons are clear:  Assessments, when assigned, will appear on the calendar with an icon representing which assessment type it is (Assignment, Discussion, or Quiz)
  • Upon student submission: Items will cross off on the student calendar
  • Items cross off on the instructor's calendar:  When the due date has passed and all items have been graded
  • Events can also be added:  They appear with the calendar icon

The Calendar is a helpful tool for reminding students of graded assignments with specific due dates. If you want to provide detailed descriptions of how synchronous class time will be used, consider using Pages or customizing the Course Home Page instead.

The Calendar in Canvas automatically syncs with other features like Assignments, Syllabus, and Grades. This means that any changes you make to an assignment's due date on the Calendar will be reflected across all these features, and vice versa. You can also easily adjust dates by dragging and dropping assignments to different days on the Calendar.

Export Canvas Calendar to Google Calendar

You have the option to import your Canvas calendar directly into Google Calendar, allowing you to keep track of all your course-related events in one place. This calendar feed includes not only upcoming events and assignment deadlines from all of your Canvas courses but also reserved Scheduler appointment slots. By syncing your Canvas calendar with Google Calendar, you can easily manage your schedule and stay organized across platforms.
