Turn Off AI Features in Adobe Acrobat

Summary

Instruction on how to turn off AI features in Adobe Acrobat.

Body

Adobe Acrobat includes Generative AI features, such as the AI Assistant and document summaries, that are turned on by default.  If you'd prefer not to use them, you can turn them off in Acrobat's preferences. To start, open Adobe Acrobat and close any open PDFs.

  1. Open Preferences
    • Windows:  Menu > Preferences
    • Mac: Acrobat (or View) > Preferences

Adobe Acrobat home screen with the Menu expanded. Preferences option is selected

  1. Locate Generative AI on the left hand side of the Preferences menu. Uncheck Enable generative AI features in Acrobat. You can also turn off any additional AI features by unchecking the box next to each option.

Adobe Acrobat preferences window. On the left hand side, Generative AI is highlighted. On the right hand side, the options to turn on or off AI features is displayed

  1. Click OK. Depending on which features you turned off, you may need to restart Adobe Acrobat.

Once the features are off, the AI Assistant panel and the "summarize this document" prompts should no longer appear. If they return after an Acrobat update, just repeat these steps.
