Upgrading to Windows 11 - User Guide

Body

Windows 10 is reaching end-of-life support in October. For security compliance, your computer must be upgraded to Windows 11. There are two ways this can be done:

  • You can follow this do-it-yourself guide to upgrade your computer yourself.
  • You can coordinate with the Help Desk to have your computer upgraded by a technician.
Note: The self-service upgrade can take an estimated 1 to 2 hours, during which time your computer will not be available to use. You can start this upgrade at the end of the workday to reduce interruption. Your laptop also must be on-campus during the upgrade process.

1. Open Software Center

Search for and open the application Software Center on your computer.

2. Select the Upgrade

In the left-hand menu, click Operating Systems then click Windows 11

3. Install the Upgrade

Click Install, then in the pop-up window click Install once more to confirm. The upgrade will begin.

Warning: Do not attempt to use your computer after beginning the upgrade process.

4. Finish & Confirm

Your computer will restart several times during the upgrade process. After it completes, the Windows sign-in screen will appear. You can then sign in to your computer and resume normal use.

Tip: For information on the changes that Windows 11 brings, see this quick start guide
