Microsoft Office 365 is a suite of software programs including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, OneDrive cloud storage, and more. Office programs are compatible with Windows & MacOS devices. 

Note: Chromebooks are not compatible with the full Office desktop programs. However, the browser-based versions may be used at office.vccs.edu  


How do Students Access Microsoft Office 365?

The Microsoft Office 365 service for Virginia Community College System (VCCS) students allows students to install and use the Office suite of programs free of charge. To download and install the software suite, students can visit office.vccs.edu and sign in with their full VCCS student email e.g. abc12345@email.vccs.edu, and VCCS/Canvas password. 

Instructions for downloading and installing Microsoft Office 365


  1. Open a web browser and navigate to office.vccs.edu 
  2. Sign in with your student email address.
  • Microsoft sign in screen with an email address entered.
  1. Enter your Canvas / MyPVCC password.
  • A password text field with a password entered.
  1. In the top right of the page, click the 'Install and more' drop down menu. 
  • A link on the Microsoft account page to download the Office 365 apps.
  1. Choose 'Install Microsoft 365 Apps' and your web browser will download an installation file. 
  2. Click to run the installation file and proceed with the installation. 
  3. Once installed, make sure to sign in to the Microsoft Office apps with your student email and password. 
     

How do Students Remain Eligible for Microsoft Office 365?

Eligibility for this service is for current students, defined as those enrolled in the current, previous or next semester. It is important to note that OneDrive storage disappears as soon as the student is no longer qualified.
