GlobalProtect VPN Installation and Setup Instructions

This article outlines the process for authorized users to install and set up the GlobalProtect VPN software to access college network resources off-campus.

Key Points:

  • In order to access Reynolds network resources away from campus, the GlobalProtect VPN software must be installed on your college machine.
     
  • The GlobalProtect VPN software can be downloaded and installed from the Company Portal app (some machines may have the Software Center app instead).
     
  • The GlobalProtect VPN software is only available to authorized users that have a legitimate reason for using it.  Authorization is based on job classification type.  For additional information about VPN authorization, please view TeamDynamix Knowledge Base article 139871.


Instructions:

Once you have been authorized to use the GlobalProtect VPN software on your college machine, you will need to download and install it.

  1. Click the Start menu icon at the bottom left corner of your computer.
     
  2. Click either Company Portal app or the Software Center app.

  3. In the list of applications, look for GlobalProtect VPN.  Once you find it, click on it.


     
  4. Click Install to start downloading and installing it to your computer.
     
  5. After a few moments, you should see actually see a message that it has been installed.


Run the GlobalProtect VPN software to ensure network connectivity when you are away from campus.

Warning: Do not attempt to connect to the GlobalProtect VPN software if your laptop is connected to the Faculty/Staff Wi-Fi network or uses an Ethenet cable.  If you do, the software will display an error message that the gateway is blocked.

  1. Click the Start menu icon at the bottom left corner of your computer.
     
  2. Scroll down your installed programs list and select the Palo Alto Networks folder, then select GlobalProtect.

  3. The GlobalProtect VPN Client application will then pop-up on your screen.  Click Connect.

  4. If prompted, select your Office 365 account (the same one you used to login to your computer).

  5. You may then be prompted to verify your account identity by choosing an authentication method (e.g., Microsoft calling your phone or sending you a one-time passcode).  Follow the prompt to successfully authenticate to your account.

  6. After you successfully authenticate to your Office 365 account, you should now see the GlobalProtect VPN Client application in a Connected status.
