MyReynolds PingMe Authentication

Summary

This article explains how the Push (ping-me) authentication option can be set on a VCCS account.

Body

Key Points:

  • Push (ping-me) is one of a few authentication methods that can be enabled for a user's VCCS account.

  • Push (ping-me) requires the RapidIdentity app to be downloaded and installed on the user's mobile device.  It is a free app that is available from the Google Play Store (for Android devices) and the Apple App Store (for iOS devices like iPhones and iPads).

  • At any time, users can choose to use Push (ping-me) authentication for their VCCS account.  Similarly, the Reynolds college Help Desk can also administratively enable it for users if they are unable to do it themselves -- review the details in the next section of this article.

  • Instructions for setting up a VCCS account to be used with the RapidIdentity app can be found here: https://myvccs-support.vccs.edu/multi-factor-authentication/push-passwordless.

Instructions to Administratively Manage Push (ping-me) Authentication for a VCCS User Account:

  1. Login to MyReynolds and click the PersonInfo tool in the Applications list.

  2. In the search bar, enter the user's first and last name, EMPLID (student ID) number, or VCCS email address.

  3. Place a check in the box next to the correct user account that is shown and then click Details on the far right.  This will bring up the user's account details.

  4. Click Edit Profile.

  5. Scroll down the list of details and until you get to the MFA options section.

  6. Verify that the Opt-In MFA Pingme - Push (Recommended) option is selected (the Boolean value for the option should be "True").  This will allow the user to authenticate with the RapidIdentity app.

  7. If you had to select the option in the previous step, click Save to keep the changes.

  8. Have the user to login to MyReynolds and verify that they can authenticate using Push (ping-me).

If it is the first time that user will be authenticating with the Push (Ping-me) method, they will need to enroll their mobile device by following the steps on this page: https://myvccs-support.vccs.edu/multi-factor-authentication/push-passwordless.   It may be necessary to temporarily disable MFA on their account by going back to their account details in the PersonInfo page and select the option for Disable MFA (For Up to 10 Minutes).
