Mapping to the I, R, S, and W Drives

This article shows you how to map to the four common network drives at Reynolds (I, R, S, and W).

Key Points:

• Each user has access to common drives, including I, R, S, and W.
   
  • I drive is generally used to access the Faculty Pay Calculator.
     
  • R drive is used to access departmental reports.  The root of the drive is accessible to all users, but each specific folder within the drive is access controlled.
     
  • S drive is used to store any data that can be accessed by other users.  Hence, this drive is also known as the "college-wide drive."
     
  • W drive is used for temporary storage of documents scanned from our campus printers.  Users should not store files on the W drive longer than necessary.
     
• This Knowledge Base article has the script files to each drive (located in the Attachments section) that can be run on your college machine to easily map them.
   
  • I drive script file is mapi.vbs.
     
  • R drive script file is mapr.vbs.
     
  • S drive script file is maps.vbs.
     
  • W drive script file is mapw.vbs.
     

Instructions:

1. To run the drive script files to map them onto your computer, click the appropriate script file to download it in your Internet browser.
    
2. Navigate to your Downloads folder on your computer and then double-click the script file you want to run.
   
   Tip: The Downloads folder is accessible by right-clicking the Start menu icon down in the bottom left corner of your screen and selecting the Run option (or you can press the Windows + R keys as a shortcut).  In the text box that appears on your screen, type C:\Users\your SR username\Downloads, then click OK (or press the Enter key).
   
   
    
3. You should see a message saying that the mapping of the drive was successful.  If you get an error message, verify that your computer is connected to the college network either through connecting it on-campus to an Ethernet cable in an office, using the JSRCCnet Wi-Fi service, or if off-campus, connecting to the GlobalProtect VPN application.
