Google Account: G Suite Invalid Email Error

Key Points:

  • G Suite is the set of Google apps (including Gmail) that are available to students after they have registered and paid for classes in SIS (Student Information System).
     
  • The G Suite invalid email error occurs when students attempt to access Gmail before their account has been activated.  This is because activation requires students to have enrollment history at any of the 23 community colleges.
     
  • Gmail activation can take up to 24 hours to process after class enrollment and payment in SIS.
     
  • On rare occassions, the G Suite invalid error can occur even when a student has enrolled and paid for classes.  Their Google account may have failed to be created due to system error and this requires a ticket to be submitted to the VCCS System Office to resolve.


Instructions:

  1. The student must verify in SIS that they have been or are currently enrolled in classes by having them view their class schedule or transcript information.
  • They can verify their class schedule by logging in to MyReynolds and doing the following.
     
    • Click SIS (Student Information System) in the application dashboard.
       
    • Click My Student Information.

    • Once the page navigates to the Student Center, click the drop-down menu under the Academic section, select Class Schedule, and click the double arrow to continue.

    • Verify that current courses are shown and their status shows “Enrolled.”

  • They can view their unofficial transcript to verify past enrollment by doing the following.

    • Make sure you are logged in to MyReynolds.

    • Click SIS (Student Information System) in the application dashboard.

    • Click My Student Information.

    • Once the page navigates to the Student Center, click the drop-down menu under the Academic section, select Transcript: View Unofficial, and click the double arrow to continue.

    • Select the appropriate VCCS institution.

    • Select Unofficial for the Report Type, then click View Report.
       
  1. The student will need to check their G Suite access by going back into the MyReynolds application dashboard and clicking Gmail.  If the "G Suite invalid email" error message appears, the Help Desk techician should direct the student to forward them a screenshot of the message.

    A trouble ticket will then be generated and the technician will escalate to the VCCS System Office.  Once  the 
    issue has been escalated, the student should expect a resolution update within 1 to 2 business days.  The update will be sent back to the email address they sent the initial help request from.
