Inspired by Fred Rogers' legacy of kindness and the culture of care at Laurel Ridge Community College, Neighbor Week is a celebration of community, compassion, education, and connection. Kindness lives here at Laurel Ridge! This is an opportunity to come together, share in kindness, and support our neighbors (anyone who is near us!) during the week of Fred Rogers’s birthday. During the week, we find unique ways to raise funds to support initiatives such as Laurel Ridge's Parent Scholar Program, TRiO, our campus food pantries and the Laurel Ridge employee emergency assistance fund. Enjoy activities such as neighborhood walks and celebrating Fred's birthday with cardigans and cupcakes, and more.
Who was Fred Rogers?
Fred Rogers created and hosted Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, a beloved half-hour children's educational television program which aired from 1968 to 2001. According to the Fred Rogers Institute, "Fred’s bedrock honesty and integrity was consistent throughout his life. He treated everyone with the same respect and sensitivity that he knew had helped him as a child. His strong moral code informed every aspect of his life, from how he lived to the community he chose for his family and work." To learn more about Fred, please click this link!
When is Neighbor Week?
Neighbor Week occurs on or around March 20th, Fred's birthday. Our next Neighbor Week will occur during the week of March 22-26. 2027. Details regarding activities with meaningful and fun ways to participate as well as helpful resources will be shared in the coming months! Please contact Kris Iden if you would like to participate in building our next Neighbor Week.
