myVCCS: Logged in but cannot access application (HR, SIS, Canvas, Google, etc)

Tags MyVCCS

When a user is able to log in to MyVCCS, but is subsequently unable to access a system such as HR or SIS, there are various possible reasons:

1. There is no icon for the system

This is most typically for faculty and staff who are not properly identified as faculty or staff in our myVCCS groups. The display of icons in MyVCCS is driven by the membership of groups/roles in myVCCS. If a person is not a member of the appropriate group, then they will not see the icon. Often this is because of some kind of incomplete setup in SIS or HR, or due to no role assignment in MyVCCS, although it can be because of an integration failure.

2. When the user clicks an icon, they are denied access

For systems with SAML configurations (e.g. Google), this is because they either do not have an account or their account is suspended or blocked. For staff with appropriate access this status is often visible in MyVCCS Person Info.

For systems that rely on password replication (e.g. some PeopleSoft systems), there may have been some kind of synchronization failure, or the security on their account is not properly set up.

For most of these scenarios, submitting a ticket is necessary.
